Gender, Body, Sex, Love, Likes, Dislikes, Relationships, Senses, Identity, Experience … LGBTQ+
Being LGBTQ+ can hold so much joy, connection and authenticity, but it can also come with experiences of loneliness, fear, rejection or not feeling fully seen for who we are. Sometimes the world around us has not made enough space for us to feel safe, accepted or understood, and this can deeply affect how we feel about ourselves, our bodies and our relationships.
We may have spent years hiding parts of ourselves, trying to fit into expectations that never truly felt right. We might have learned to stay quiet, make ourselves smaller, or constantly assess whether it is safe to be open about who we are. We can feel different or unseen. There can be grief for the acceptance, care or understanding we didn't receive when we needed it most.
For some LGBTQ+ people, there may also be experiences of body dysmorphia or gender dysphoria. We may feel disconnected from our bodies, uncomfortable in the way we are seen by others, or distressed by the difference between how we feel inside and how others see us. These feelings can affect self-esteem, relationships, intimacy and our sense of safety within ourselves.
These experiences make sense within the context of our lives. LGBTQ+ affirming therapists understand the importance of being met without judgement or assumptions or the need to educate the other. Therapy can offer a space where all parts of our identity and experience are welcome.
An LGBTQ+ affirming therapist works alongside you at your pace, creating a relationship built on safety, respect and compassion. Therapy may support you in exploring identity, relationships, self-acceptance, body image, dysphoria or the impact of past experiences and trauma. It can also simply be a space where you no longer have to hide parts of yourself.
Together, therapy can support us in building lives that feel more connected, authentic and compassionate towards ourselves, no matter what we have experienced.
