Young people and teenagers

Young people face a unique set of developmental and social pressures

  • Emotional & Mental Health: Struggling with anxiety, low mood, or self-harm.

  • Life Transitions: Coping with grief, bereavement, or family changes like divorce.

  • Identity: Whether living with birth, foster, or adoptive parents, the teen years often raise questions of Who an I? and support be helpful to make sense of themselves.

  • Social Pressures: Navigating bullying (including online), peer pressure, and the challenges of social media.

  • Academic Stress: Pressure to succeed in exams and balance expectations from peers and parents.

  • Challenges at school: school refusal

  • Behavioral & Communication Challenges: Processing neurodiverse needs, speech/language delays, or adapting to occupational/physical therapy requirements.

Therapy for younger people is often creative and makes use of modalities suited to their age and developemental stage. Therapists often use play, drama, puppets, art, or music to help children communicate feelings they may not yet have the vocabulary for.
